"Now is the winter of our discontent," says Richard III. But wouldn't dropping the "dis" make a cool good song title? I thought. Then it was a matter of digging through Shakespeare's plays and sonnets for more words and phrases to tell the story of an unexpected love that lasts.

The last night of December
My icicle heart
Was solid as 12 below

A dancer in the dark
Ever nightingale, never lark
I’d never have expected
Our hearts would be eternally connected

It’s lovely to remember
The way it began
With starlight and falling snow

Our dancing days are past

In spite of imperfection
We still delight in mutual affection
